    Posted by TechComp USA

Taipei, Taiwan, April 24, 2019 – QNAP® Systems, Inc. today launched the next-gen TDS-16489U R2 NAS that features dual Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 v4 processors, and a dual OS system for businesses to flexibly deploy an operating system that fits their needs and goals. Users can take advantage of the ZFS-based QES for enterprise-level, efficient and reliable storage for mission-critical tasks, or to install QTS for virtual machine applications, diverse applications, and auto-tiered storage.

“With QTS and QES, QNAP have developed two operating systems that provide users with exceptional functionality based on their needs. By supporting both systems, users have greater flexibility on how to use their TDS-16489U R2,” said David Tsao, Product Manager of QNAP, adding “Whether for a file server, virtualization server, VDI, medium-scale data center, video streaming, surveillance storage, or efficient file backup/recovery, the cost-efficient TDS-16489U R2 with dual processors and dual OS options demonstrates an ideal storage solution.”

With an extraordinary hardware design, the TDS-16489U R2 features two processors (with Intel® Xeon® E5-2620 v4 8-core CPU and Intel® Xeon® E5-2630 v4 10-core CPU configurations), three independent SAS 12Gb/s controllers, and up to 1 TB quad-channel DDR4 2133MHz RDIMM/LRDIMM RAM (16 DIMM) to deliver the utmost performance. Four 10GbE SFP+ ports fulfill bandwidth-demanding applications such as virtualization, large file sharing, and fast backup/restoration. Four PCIe Gen3 slots allow flexible expansion for 40GbE/25GbE/10GbE NICs, graphics cards, QM2 cards, 12Gb/s SAS HBA, or Fibre Channel adapters (FC support available from QES 2.2.0 and QTS 4.4.1). The TDS-16489U R2 offers an extra four 2.5-inch drive trays at the rear to provide SSD caching, supports IPMI that facilitates remote IT manageability, and features redundant 770 watt power supplies to ensure system reliability.

The TDS-16489U R2 is preinstalled with QES, and supports numerous ZFS-based data protection and restoration features including end-to-end checksums to detect and correct silent data corruption, near-unlimited snapshots for iSCSI LUN and shared folders, and SnapSync to accelerate remote backups. SnapSync also supports VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) to offer an enterprise-class remote backup and disaster recovery solution for virtual applications. Inline data deduplication and compression can optimize storage utilization and VDI performance. QES also supports OpenStack® Cinder and Manila file sharing services to provide out-of-the-box enterprise cloud services. With QES the TDS-16489U R2 also can serve as perfect backup storage for the dual-controller Enterprise ZFS NAS (ES1640dc v2) using SnapSync.

The TDS-16489U R2 with QTS performs as an all-in-one NAS solution. It not only serves as ideal virtualization storage (supports VMware®, Citrix®, Microsoft® Hyper-V® and Windows Server® 2016 virtualization) but also can host virtual machines and containers to operate diversified application servers. Users can efficiently complete their backup plans with Hybrid Backup Sync, volume/LUN snapshots, and virtual machine backups. IOPS-demanding applications can benefit from SSD caching, alongside QTS' software-defined SSD extra over-provisioning to optimize random write speeds and to extend SSD lifespan. QNAP’s Qtier™ Technology empowers the TDS-16489U R2 as tiered storage that balances optimal performance and storage efficiency. The built-in App Center features hundreds of install-on-demand apps to provide greater NAS functionality (including QVR Pro for video surveillance, Q'center for centrally managing multiple QNAP NAS, and more).

    Availability

The TDS-16489U R2 NAS is now available, and provides a standard 5-year warranty. Please contact us for more details.

  • QNAP Officially Launches the TS-2888X AI-Ready NAS for Machine Learning

    Posted by TechComp USA

Taipei, Taiwan, March 4, 2019 – QNAP® Systems, Inc. today officially launched the TS-2888X, an AI-Ready NAS specifically optimized for AI model training. Built using powerful Intel® Xeon® W processors with up to 18 cores and employing a flash-optimized hybrid storage architecture for IOPS-intensive workloads, the TS-2888X also supports installing up to 4 high-end graphics cards and runs QNAP’s AI developer package “QuAI”. The TS-2888X packs everything required for machine learning AI, greatly reducing latency, accelerating data transfer, and eliminating performance bottlenecks caused by network connectivity to expedite AI implementation.

Conventional AI workstations usually have massive price tags, and the complexity of configuring hardware and software is an obstacle for most data scientists and developers. The use of public clouds for storage and training may also raise concerns when using sensitive data. QNAP’s TS-2888X introduces an all-in-one AI solution that integrates huge storage potential, powerful computing, a ready-to-use AI environment, and comprehensive data protection to supplement AI workflows. It not only serves as a Training Server for AI models, but can also serve as an Inference Server, thereby further lowering the R&D entry barrier, making AI development more feasible and easily accessible.

“The age of AI is upon us, and we are witnessing its transformative effects throughout a wide range of industries, including healthcare, IT, retail, and surveillance,” said David Tsao, Product Manager of QNAP. “The TS-2888X AI-Ready NAS combines storage, computing, and a user-friendly AI software environment to reduce the time and complexity of implementing and managing AI tasks, while also providing cost-efficient and accessible AI development.”

The AI-Ready TS-2888X features Intel® Xeon® W processors with up to 18 cores and 36 threads and up to 4.5 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 to deliver uncompromising performance. Up to 512 GB DDR4 ECC RDIMM 2666 MHz RAM is supported, providing ample space for huge projects while protecting against potential memory errors. The TS-2888X supports mainstream NVIDIA®, AMD® and Intel® accelerator cards, providing eight PCIe slots and a 2,000 watt 80Plus Platinum PSU that accommodates up to 4 high-end graphics cards to unleash tremendous computing power. To meet the simultaneous needs for scale and performance, the TS-2888X employs a hybrid storage architecture with eight 3.5-inch SATA 6Gb/s drive bays for hard drives, sixteen 2.5-inch SATA 6Gb/s drive bays for SSDs, and four 2.5-inch drive bays that support U.2 PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe SSDs. This hybrid storage architecture provides the ability to enable SSD caching or auto-tiering to boost performance-demanding applications. There are six smart fans that separately detect temperatures in different zones (CPU, PCIe slots, power supply unit, and storage) to provide smarter, quieter, and energy-efficient cooling.

The TS-2888X introduces a comprehensive software environment for organizations to easily set up and maintain AI applications. The exclusive QuAI – an AI developer package to quickly build, train and optimize AI models running on the NAS – enables a range of open-source tools and frameworks (including Caffe, TensorFlow, AlexNet, FaceNet, and more) for the AI workflows readily available to users. The TS-2888X also features flexible backup tools and snapshot protection to assure data security while also allowing efficient disaster recovery.

QNAP’s AI solution has been put into practice in cooperation with a renowned medical research institute in Taiwan, and successfully realized a healthcare AI diagnostic system for age-related macular degeneration. The AI result not only significantly improves diagnostic accuracy and efficiency, but also creates possibilities to aid organizations that lack medical resources.
