    Remote Data Accessibility

When your business has Thecus network-attached storage, you get prompt data storage and retrieval as and when required. The device is beneficial for an organization that has a geographically distributed sales team that constantly shares sales activities. Regardless of the location, the team can add data using the internet connection.

    All Time Accessibility

To access a NAS device, you don't need an external server. You can access the device, whenever required, as it is get-at-able round the clock. However, you have to ensure the NAS device is switched on. Also, backup is important in case of a power outage.

    Scalability

While looking for a reliable data storage device, scalability becomes an issue for small businesses or organizations. Good thing about the NAS device is it is cloud-based. You can add more storage easily whenever the date that to need to be stored increases.

    Better Collaboration

With NAS devices, your team gets access to up-to-date data even if they are located in distant places. In addition to that, each member can make changes that get updated at the same time. This way, each person in your team will be on the same page.

    Quick Decision Making

With Network Attached Device, you don’t have to wait for the required information. As data is updated spontaneously, management can make important decisions without any delay.

    Easy to Use

As the installation of NAS devices doesn’t need an IT professional, you can easily install and use it without any external assistance. This way, you can cut the cost of a dedicated IT professional in your organization.

    Low in Cost

Small businesses and organizations look for solutions that don’t cost much. The low cost of NAS devices is another bonus point for them.

    Security

Though the world is relying more on cloud storage these days, with a NAS device you don’t have to worry about anyone else accessing your data or documents. This is one of the major reasons why people are slowly switching to network-attached storage.

QNAP Officially Releases QTS 4.4.1 – A New Version of QTS That Incorporates Cloud Storage Gateway Services for Hybrid Cloud Storage and Introduces the Fibre Channel Connectivity Solution

Taipei, Taiwan, September 18, 2019 – QNAP® Systems, Inc., a leading computing, networking and storage solution innovator, today officially released QTS 4.4.1. In addition to integrating Linux Kernel 4.14 LTS to support next-generation hardware platforms, QNAP is advancing NAS usability by incorporating highly-anticipated services, including a cloud storage gateway that makes hybrid cloud storage and applications easier, source-based deduplication to optimize backup and recovery efficiency, a Fibre Channel SAN solution, and much more.

“We gathered valuable user feedback from QTS 4.4.1 beta testing that helped us complete the official release,” said Ken Cheah, Product Manager at QNAP, adding “Our focus in this recent QTS update was integrating cloud storage services to help organizations seamlessly leverage the cloud for storage, while securing on-premises data and applications for more usage scenarios.”

Key new apps and features in QTS 4.4.1:

    • HybridMount – File-based cloud storage gateway
The enhanced and renamed HybridMount (formerly CacheMount) integrates NAS devices with mainstream cloud services and enables low-latency access to cloud data via local caching. Users can also leverage versatile QTS features, such as file management, editing, and multimedia applications, for the NAS-connected cloud storage. Alternatively, users can simply use the remote mount service for mounting remote storage or cloud space with the HybridMount app and centrally access data via File Station.
    • VJBOD Cloud – Block-based cloud storage gateway
VJBOD Cloud allows mapping cloud object storage (including Amazon S3®, Google Cloud™, and Azure®) to a QNAP NAS as block-based cloud LUNs and cloud volumes, providing a secure and scalable method to back up local application data. Mounting cloud storage with the VJBOD Cloud cache engine enables near-LAN access speed to cloud data. Data stored in the cloud will be synchronized with NAS storage space to ensure service continuity in case of cloud outage.
    • HBS 3 introduces QuDedup technology to optimize backup time and storage
QuDedup technology eliminates redundant data at the source to reduce backup size, saving backup storage, bandwidth, and time. Users can install the QuDedup Extract Tool on their computer and easily restore deduplicated files to their normal status. HBS also supports TCP BBR Congestion Control to greatly improve extranet data transfer speeds when backing up data to the cloud.
    • QNAP NAS as a Fibre Channel SAN solution
QNAP NAS devices installed with compatible Fibre Channel adapters can be easily added to SAN environments to provide high-performance storage and backup for today's data intensive applications, while also allowing users to leverage many QNAP NAS benefits, including snapshot protection, auto-tiered storage, SSD cache acceleration, and more.
    • QuMagie – Brand-new AI albums
QuMagie, the next generation Photo Station, features a streamlined user interface, a built-in timeline scroll, integrated AI-based photo organization, customizable folder covers, and a powerful search tool, providing the ultimate photo management and file sharing solution.
    • Multimedia Console centralizes multimedia app management
Multimedia Console consolidates all QTS multimedia applications into one app, allowing easy, centralized multimedia app management. Users can select source files for each multimedia application and set permission settings.
    • Flexible management of Qtier’s SSD RAID tier
Users can flexibly remove an SSD from an SSD RAID group to change or add SSDs, or change the SSD RAID type or SSD type (SATA, M.2, QM2) when needed to enhance storage auto-tiering efficiency.
    • Self-Encrypting Drives (SEDs) ensure data protection
SEDs (e.g. Samsung® 860 and 970 EVO SSDs) offer built-in encryption features that remove the need for extra software or NAS system resources when encrypting data.

  • QNAP Launches the TR-004U, a 4-bay 1U short-depth rackmount RAID Storage Expansion Device

    Posted by TechComp USA

Taipei, Taiwan, June 4, 2019 – QNAP® Systems, Inc. (QNAP), a leading computing, networking and storage solution provider, today launched the TR-004U, a 4-bay hardware RAID storage expansion device that can be attached to NAS, PC and server via USB 3.0 Type-C. The 12-inch-deep 1U short depth design of TR-004U can be used to add storage space to a QNAP NAS and can also serve as hardware-based RAID storage for PCs and NAS. The TR-004U offers convenient cross-platform file sharing and high flexibility for users, acting as a high-efficiency and intuitive storage expansion option.

The TR-004U supports individual, JBOD and RAID 0/1/5/10 storage configurations. QNAP NAS users can use the TR-004U with their NAS, including setting RAID parameters and creating a storage pool by using the “Storage and Snapshots” app within QTS. Alternatively, the TR-004U can be used as an external storage device of the NAS. The TR-004U can also be used with computers to facilitate file sharing and exchange and supports the exFAT file system. Computer users with limited storage upgrade options can also use the TR-004U as an expansion unit, and a specialized QNAP External RAID Manager utility (Windows/macOS) can help them view disk health, change RAID configurations, check logs, and update the firmware of the TR-004U.

Jason Hsu, Product Manager of QNAP, said: “The TR-004U is a new option for NAS and DAS expansion, with a single device being available in server, PC or workstation. While existing QNAP NAS users can add storage space to their NAS with the TR-004U, server, PC and workstation users can purchase the device, acquire a NAS at a later time, and keep using their TR-004U for maximum cost efficiency.”

A DIP switch on the rear of the TR-004U can switch the disk configuration of the device. There are also status indicators, and lockable hard drive trays. When the host PC/NAS goes to sleep, shuts down, or is disconnected, the TR-004U will go into the sleep mode and save energy.
